USDA study on PiNT Technology yields positive results03/02/2010

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has conducted a study into the effectiveness of the Plant Impact yield maximising PiNT technology. Positive findings have resulted from the study into improving plant quality at different nitrogen rates. The USDA’s Agriculture Research Service and the Department of Crop and Soil sciences Pennsylvania State University conducted the accredited trials.

There is a growing market demand in the US for the development of alternative solutions to control nitrate leaching which Plant Impact’s PiNT technology addresses.. PiNT Potassium is a uniquely controlled uptake nitrogen/potassium fertiliser formulated to support plant quality, yield, root promotion and stress tolerance.

The studies targeted a comparison of Plant Impact’s PiNT Potassium product with the effects of a Nitrogen:Potassium analogue fertiliser on creeping bentgrass, focusing on quality, growth habit and environmental benefits

The study findings recorded quality of colouring improvement levels 2-3% higher for the PiNT Potassium than the analogue treated fertiliser. The dark green colour index recorded a 4-7% comparative increase. Additionally PiNT Potassium provided an equally healthy sward for at least 6 weeks when used at half the rate of the traditional nitrogen fertiliser.

PiNT Potassium also resulted in less above the ground growth – preferable for better maintenance of healthy bentgrass sports turf. Studies have demonstrated that with reduced growth habit, mowing requirements are less frequent, lowering the consequent energy input consumed during turf maintenance. Moreover reduced nitrogen application cuts down the level of nitrogen required to grow strong healthy turf whilst impacting significantly on levels of nitrogen available to leach into the environment.

Plant Impact CEO Peter Blezard commented: “We are delighted with the outcome of the USDA study results as they clearly demonstrate that our PiNT Technology improves both the quality and the growth habit of plants whilst at the same time dramatically reducing the impact to the environment. We are committed to improving crop productivity through our technology portfolio and these specific outcomes recorded for PiNT Potassium mark a further step forward in that goal for the agricultural sector whilst enabling us to further penetrate a lucrative market”.
